Saroj Super Speciality Hospital had been duly considered, one of the foremost trusted hospitals in Delhi, and thus designated as ‘100% Covid Hospital’ – in the very first wave of Covid.

Subsequently, in the second wave too, being a executive director and taking care of department it was challenging for me as our hospital has been among the first 14 hospitals to be designated as 100% Covid hospital. The hospital has thoroughly lived with the expectations and acclaims, not only, of the Government, but of the – Patients and People; the Doctors and Staff Members. Being a socio-professionally open and supportive institution, S.S.S.H., is pleased to share its experience and modalities.

The scrupulously planned structure of Covid Care by dividing medical and non-medical staff into three Units. Each unit comprises of Senior Consultants, Junior Consultants, Intensivists, RMOs, Nursing Staff, Housekeeping staff. The structure, has greatly helped in attaining goals of better Personalized Patient Care and in managing the staff crisis situation, as 90 staffers (doctors, nurses, ward-boys, drivers etc) contracted Covid, in the 2nd wave of Covid. Powered by the characteristic culture of dedication and accountability of S.S.S.H. and its doctors, despite the prevailing Fear and liability of transmission of the disease, attained distinction of maintaining professional ideology of two vsits each by Sr Consultants, Jr Consultants, while RMOs attending more frequently.

It will be imperative to make a mention, here, that the hospital has unfortunately lost his one doctor, a distinguished Senior Surgeons – Dr. A.K.Rawat, as he succumbed of, fighting his brave battle against Covid.

Challenges: The treatment of Covid, being still not properly defined – careful observation of individual response to the treatment, matters a lot. It is imperative to focus on – psychology of patient, concerns of attendants, response of the medication, choice of food.

Timely actions helpful- Arrangements of Video interactions of attendant-patient has helped a lot in addressing to the needs of – comfort levels, emotional and psychological well-being translating into attainment of individual medical goals. The vivid and customized menu of food, the course of 10 hot drinks a day (kadhas, soups etc), have been greatly appreciate. S.S.S.H. has always ensured, no gap in availability of medicines & equipment to keep treatments uncompromised.

Achievements –During second wave of covid, 15 new Ventilators and a number  of Oxygen Concentrators procured our hospital has been greatly appreciated for prudently managing in the acute Oxygen crisis (Nation-wide crisis). Ensured, not only that, no unfortunate death due to Oxygen crisis occurred, but also, no critically sick patient was discharged – got possible through calculative measures of Oxygen saving, rigorous and successful endeavours of sourcing Oxygen. It is a matter of great pride, to share an up-scale achievement, of our team of engineers, in combating the incompatibilities of size and supply systems with the supplying Oxygen Tankers. Also, helped out the other hospitals, on this front. With this distinction realized, the Delhi Govt has included our team of engineers, in its key technical team, dedicated for fight against Covid
