Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) organised an awareness drive “Step out for Stroke” on Tuesday.
The main objective was to make public aware about the Brain Stroke which is a common disabling neurological disease.
According to Dr Nimish G Desai , Director IHBAS in India, studies estimate that the incidence of stroke population varies from 116 to 163 per lakh population. The common causes or risk factors of stroke are hypertension , Diabetes , increased cholesterol, heart disease, stress and sedentary life style.
All these risk factors can be modified or controlled by an individual after seeking due medical consultation and lifestyle modifications he added.
Step out for Stroke is an initiative by Department of Neurology , Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences towards increasing the awareness on stroke.
The emphasis of the event was on importance of the daily physical activity to improve the risk factors related with stroke. A large number of participants walked 1.5 Km across the IHBAS Campus.
General public awareness about is the key to improve the stroke management and to make India stroke ready for the increasing number of stroke patients said Dr.Suman Kushwaha, Associate Professor-Head & Neurology, IHBAS.
Dr Nimish G Desai , Director IHBAS inspired and encouraged the participants for daily physical activity. Apart faculty members of Neurology department apprised the participants regarding the recognition of early symptoms and treatment aspects of the stroke.
