Visakhapatnam|HL Indian parenteral companies have a huge potential to export injectable to the US and European markets, said Sanjit Singh Lamba, president of Parenteral Drug Association (PDA), India chapter, adding that the sector has potential to grow at 20% CAGR (compound annual growth rate).
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a workshop for pharma professionals in Vizag on Friday, Lamba said Vizag, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Indore are the major centres of parenteral manufacturing in the country. Parenteral drugs refer to medicines that are administered only with the help of injections.
Referring to the Port City, Lamba said, “Vizag is looked as an evolving hub for not only pharma, but also injectables. The city has a large potential as this zone is already focusing on APIs (active pharmaceutical ingredient) and also because infrastructure support is available.” He said players such as Dr Reddy’s and Hospira setting up their facilities is an indication of the importance of Vizag as a hub for the injectable segment.
