The decision was reserved :
The court had reserved the verdict on Thursday after hearing the parties in the matter. The petitions challenged the 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and 10 per cent reservation for EWS in all India quota seats for postgraduate medical courses. Of the candidates selected through NEET, 15 percent seats in MBBS and 50 percent seats in MS and MD courses are filled through All India Quota..

Center had sought permission to start counselling
During the hearing on Thursday, the central government said that counselling should be allowed to start. At the same time, the petitioners opposed the quota. The petitioner opposed the criterion of Rs 8 lakh for EWS category and said that an alternative limit of Rs 2.5 lakh can be fixed.

Center say in the court:
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the central government, argued that 27 per cent OBC quota and 10 per cent reservation for EWS are being given in central universities. It is applicable from January 2019. The same quota is being given in UPSC as well.
