Do you remember Amir Khan’s award winning movie ‘Tare Zameen Par’, it was a story of a dyslexic child. Dyslexic kids, who find it difficult to read and write letters and other symbols now has a Engineering Student’s designed new device.
A device that helps children with kinesthetic dyslexia has bagged top spot in Smart India Hackathon under the Smart Communication’ category held at the CSIR-CEERI Pilani. A brainchild of students from KCJ College of Engineering, Chennai team named Tech Guys won 1st Prize for it. Dyslexia is believed to be caused by both genetic and environmental factors.
The second and third spots went to the teams from Bengaluru ‘sky porters’ and Delhi’s Team named ‘Clairvoyants 2’ respectively for coming up with a solution to the perennial problem of lost baggage at airports. At the CSIR-CEERI finale, a total of 13 teams had participated with six members each.
Students of the Bharatiya Vidyapeeth College of Engineering and Technology have developed an airport baggage tracking system. A radio frequency identification device makes the process of detection easy, as it reads the data embedded into the unique numeric tag of every piece of baggage and thus is able to make out its location.
Details of the location can be transmitted, using a gadget or an app, to the airport authorities and passengers who have lost their luggage. If the piece of baggage is stolen or taken away to some location by mistake, the owner of the object(s) is informed immediately.
Presiding over the conclusion and award distribution function in his address, Professor Shantanu Choudhury, Director, CSIR-CEERI welcomed all the guests, including participants of the teams who were present at CSIR-CEERI since last 4 days, to participate in the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2018 (Hardware Edition), said that this event is Finale of Finale. Through this event, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, has provided an innovation platform to invite young power to work on the solution of the problems of the country.
Mr. Chaudhury said that if such an effort is continued in the future, on the basis of the mobilization of the large number of nation’s youth to come together to solve such important problems, the name of the event may also
be recorded in the Guinness Book.
In his address, Representative of Persistent Systems and, the center head of the Hackathon 2018, Dr. Vivek Singh, appreciated the enthusiasm and energy of all the participants who participated in the competition. Simultaneously, he thanked the director of the institute and the organizing committee for the support and cooperation of all the staff along with the facilities provided for this event.
Dr. Kaushik Saha, Chairman of the Exclusive Guest and Jury, Chief Technology Officer, Samsung R & D Institute, Noida said that this is just a beginning. Giving the students the success formulae in life, he said that you all have to go a long way with your hard work, concentration, dedication and discipline. In the end, he greeted all the winners and participants for their future life.
Chief Guest Prof. Sawawik Bhattacharya Vice Chancellor, BITS-Pilani in his address said that this effort of the Government is very commendable to include the youth in finding the solution of the problems of the country through the events like Smart India Hackathon
Prior distribution of the award, all the participants were also addressed through the video conferencing by Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar. In his brief address, he praised the hardware prototypes developed by the participating teams during the grand finale held at each center, including CSIR-CEERI. He discussed with two teams from each Center through video conferencing. While highlighting the importance of competitions like Hackathon, he said that innovation is very important for India. Through this we can move ahead at a faster pace. Appreciating the youth power of the country, he said that our youth have potentials and they can make important contributions to the progress of the country by implementing innovative ideas.
It is notable that 13 teams participated from different engineering colleges across the country in the grand finale of this Smart India Hackathon -2018 (Hardware Edition) organized on ‘Smart Communication’ theme at CSIR-CEERI. Apart from this, the event the event was organized at nine different centers of the country on different themes simultaneously.
During the program, along with the winners, their external mentors were also presented with certificates and mementos for their cooperation. Finally, the program coordinator Dr Abhijit Karmakar thanked everyone. The program was conducted by the master of the ceremony, Dr. Neeraj Kumar.
