With an aim to make Doctors self-sufficient and provide them basic self-defence skills Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) launched the first workshop under “SASHAKT” initiative at Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi on Friday.
*Sashakt* is an ambitious project of Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (India), whereby similar workshops will be conducted in various Hospitals of Delhi eventually.
Sashakt*, a two-day Self-defence workshop was organised in Lady Hardinge Medical College from 27th-28th February. The purpose of the Workshop is to provide Doctors & Medical students with basic self-defence skills, necessary at the workplace and in day-to-day life. It was a tremendous success and Faculty, Resident Doctors and students actively participated in the Workshop said Dr. Shivaji Dev Barman, National President, FORDA.
Faculty from clinical as well as Para-clinical & clinical departments enthusiastically took part in this two-day workshop. Since it’s a new project, more than 150 doctors participated adds Dr. Barman who initiated the programme.
FORDA in association with RDAs of various hospitals and in collaboration with International Ultimate Krav Maga Federation (IUKMF) organised this training programme. IUKMF has branches in many countries.
Krav Maga is a form of Israeli self-defence. Krav Maga (Contact Combat) is a practical and tactical system that teaches how to prevent, deal and overcome all kinds of violence and attacks, training individuals in self-defence, self-protection, fighting and combat skills, skills to defend others; all through a unique and comprehensive teaching method.
Appreciating the move Dr.Pankaj Solanki, Former President-FORDA and President Dharmveer Solanki hospital said “The course will definitely help doctors to save themselves against the violence they face during services. I appeal medical fraternity to join hands with FORDA to make this campaign successful.
The cases of assaulting medical practitioners are raising and there were numbers of incidents reported last year. We have announced this course last year to make resident doctors learn how to survive growing assaults on doctors said Dr.Sumedh Assistant Professor-Ortho department- Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, and Former President-FORDA. I congratulate the team FORDA for taking this programme forward for the sake and well-being of doctors.
FORDA has launched this “Sashakt” project of empowering doctors and medical students with basic Self-defence Skills, necessary in the current scenario at the workplace and in day-to-day life.
Many hospitals of Delhi and pan India are interested in organising this Sashakt workshop and there will be more participants be the part of such workshops in future said, President Barman.
