The programme will launched on Independence day. This is a first time that government hospital come up with such an innovative idea said Muncipal Chairman M.A. Rajagopal.
It has been proved that music can ease anxiety and help reduce the pain of patients. This has prompted the Punalur municipality and the Punalur taluk hospital management to come up with an innovative idea to organize a daily musical session every evening at the hospital for the patients, bystanders and the general public.
“We are giving importance to the vocal and instrumental concert here and many artists have expressed their interest to perform as part of the programme. Many scientific experiments have proved that music can be used to treat patients and ours is such an experimental initiative,” Rajagopal said.
Earlier, the hospital management had launched the ‘Santhwana Sangeetham’ project in 2012 and at that time it was done using a musical system sponsored by a group of people from Punalur working abroad. Its success has prompted the authorities, especially the hospital superintendent, Dr Shahir Sha, to think of making it a live show. The hospital, which has become a multi-speciality hospital during the tenure of Dr Sha, also has the achievement of the lowest caesarian rate in the state by implementing the first painless delivery facility in a government hospital.
In her recent visit, health minister K K Shylaja said that the taluk hospitals in the state will be developed on the lines of the Punalur taluk hospital in the coming years.
Rajagopal said that the aim of the programme is to make use of the healing power of music to give solace and peace to the patients. Artists interested in performing at the hospital can contact the hospital management. The project is being implemented with the help of Jawahar Balakalabhavan and St Goretti HSS School PTA.
