Bariatric surgeon and Chairman of ‘Max Institute of Minimal Access Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery’ Dr. Pradeep Chowbey has been hounoured by the Renowned Japanese society of Endoscopic Surgeons for his contribution in the arena. He felicitated with honorary membership of this Osaka situated society.
“It is a proud moment to receive the recognition for my work from a widely respected association. These memberships and awards further strengthen my resolve to continue to do revolutionary work in the field of laparoscopic and bariatric surgery,” said Chowbey commenting on the recognition.
Chowbey, also a Padma Shri awardee, is considered a pioneer in the filed of bariatric surgery and has performed over 70, 000 surgeries between 1992-2015. He operated various eminent personalities like Former President K R Naraynan and Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai lama. Dr. pradeep is the first Person to perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy in 1993 at Sri Lanka.
Chowbey was one of the first Indian surgeons to recognize the increasing prevalence of obesity in India and looks at bariatric surgery as a mainstream medical solution to treat this problem, if the other options such as lifestyle changes, healthy eating and other medical intervention are not useful. According to statistics, India currently has 41 million obese people living in India. Dr. Chowbey is a Guinness world record holder for doing Most Minimal Access Surgery.
