Mobile and internet has become necessity for eveyone. Due to internet addiction the social relation is affected day by day.
AIIMS has started OPD for the mobile and internet addicted people where people get treatment and counseling for them.
Social issues like impact of mental health due to family structure, migration of people from across the country and within the country, the job situation- hiring firing, rapid escalation in the drug-use behaviour of large number of people in productive age group and cyber addiction will discussed in the Congress.
The Congress is being organised by the Indian Association for Social Psychiatry (IASP), NDDTC, AIIMS and Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh.
While talking with Health Live Dr R K Chadda, professor in the department of Psychiatry, said AIIMS “Mental disorders have been recognised as major contributors to the disease-associated burden and disability in the famous Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. Depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and alcohol and substance-use disorders are the major contributors to this burden,”
He said as per the GBD 2010 data, mental and substance use disorders accounted for 183•9 million DALYs, accounting for 7•4 per cent of the total disease burden.
“Global burden caused by the mental disorders was higher than that due to HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis,” he said.
Targeting the burden and disability caused by mental disorders is a major challenge to the mental health professionals, said Dr Mamta Sood, Professor from Department of Psychiatry.
A number of world leaders in the field like professors Norman Sartorius, Laurence Kirmayer, Dinesh Bhugra, Helen Herrman, Stephen Scott, Helen Killaspy and Vikram Patel will attend the Congress
