Union Health Ministry will come up with a new scheme on health “National Health Protection Scheme” for the deprived people as discussed on high level of meeting by Minsters.
The new scheme, according to the plan, will cover poor families and labourers, among others, as per deprivation statistics given in the latest socio-economic caste survey with a minimum package of Rs 50,000 per family, with a provision of a top-up of Rs 30,000 for every senior citizen and a transportation allowance of Rs 250 for every hospitalization.
It can replace the older schemes on health including Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yogna.
Firstly, it will provide cover of Rs.50,000 to around 40 crore people of 8 crore families. This scheme will launch with a proposal to congregate old health schemes including BPL scheme RSBY which catering deprived families.


The scheme is estimated to cost Rs 23,415 crore over a period of five years. It would give Rs.500 per family per annum at a fixed rate and Rs.300 attached by the state for per annum
.
To cover 8 crore beneficiary families, the total estimated cost for premium would be Rs 6,400 crore per year and the Centre’s contribution is pegged at Rs 4,000 crore a year. Apart from this, the projected premium outgo on account of senior citizens is estimated at around Rs 1,000 crore per year with the Centre contributing Rs 600 crore annually.
In addition, It would be beneficiary for the people who listed on basis of income and also based on deprivation. The ministry has suggested setting up of a National Health Agency for effective implementation of the scheme as well as linking it with larger healthcare systems such as National Health Mission and other such government programmes.
