The mother of a 27-year-old doctor, who died of COVID-19 at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on July 27, also left this world on August 18 as she was deeply shocked over the death of her son Joginder Chaudhary, who was a junior resident at Baba Saheb Ambedkar (BSA) Hospital in Delhi.
Slain Chaudhary’s mother Premlata had stopped eating soon after she learnt after losing her son on July 27. The deceased doctor fought the battle against the virus for a month after he was diagnosed COVID-19 positive on June 27.
According to the former president of Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), AIIMS Dr Amarinder S Malhi, the mother of corona warrior Dr Joginder Chaudhary Premlata had been ill for the last 23 days due to the concern of her beloved son. She also died due to COVID-19.
However, Dr. Malhi who is Assistant Professor, Department of Cardiovascular Radiology & Endovascular Interventions, AIIMS, New Delhi, also requested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Health Minister Satyender Jain to provide a government job to next to the kin of the deceased doctor.
It’s worth mentioning here that Chaudhary belonged to a poor family as his father is a farmer. Chaudhary, who had joined the casualty department of BSA in November last year, hailed from Singoli in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district.
Initially, Joginder was under home quarantine and when he developed breathing issues, he was hospitalised at his own hospital. On seeing his chest X-Ray, doctors at BSA referred him to Lok Nayak Hospital, where doctors told that his condition was critical.
“As his condition kept deteriorating, he told his father to sell their land to get admitted at Ganga Ram for better treatment. His family shifted him to Sir Ganga Ram after some days,” a family member said.
When the bill mounted at the hospital, the Resident Doctors’ Association of BSA came together and wrote to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking financial assistance.
However, on his father’s request to waive medical expenses which had shot up to around Rs 3.4 lakh, the SGRH administration offered that assistance the very next day.
Commenting on the doctor’s death, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital’s board chairman Dr D S Rana had said, “The condition of Joginder critical when he was brought to the hospital. He was immediately taken to the ICU and was continuously monitored by a team of doctors. There were no co-morbidities but his condition turned critical.”
