Haryana became the first state to launch project which provide injectable contraceptive to women that would be effective for three months.
It will be included under project called ‘Salamati’ the family-planning project. As for trial the contraceptive is being provided in 9 blocks of 4 districts.
The contraceptive would also be given on free of cost in the beginning.
The states chosen for the project is on the basis of the mother and infant mortality rate in these districts is more when compared to other districts. If the project turns out to be a success, it will be extended throughout the state.
The districts covered are 4 blocks in Palwal, 3 in Mewat, Kurali in Faridabad and Khor in Rewari region.
Chief Minister Manoharlal Khattar said “The injectable contraceptive would be available at all primary and community health centres and sub-divisional and district hospitals”.
Haryana health minister Anil Vij said the injectable contraceptives would offer a choice in family-planning measures.
He said he would also request the Centre government to get the injectable contraceptive included in the list of essential medicines.
Further Vij added that health and anganwadi workers would also be trained for effective implementation of the project.
