AIIMS Bhubaneswar launched a programme and screen around 15,000 people to measure their hearing ability.
The programme was a part of a national study commissioned by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)
Dr.C.Preetam, Asst.Prof. Department of otorhinolaryngology said “”It will be done through random sampling method. Our researchers will tour 70 villages and 30 urban wards in a specialised van fitted with advanced equipment,”.
People detected with hearing problem during the programme will be provided free treatment at AIIMS, he said.
The AIIMS Bhubaneswar recently started the cochlear implant (a hearing aid) programme. “The cochlear devices are implanted on the hearing impaired free of cost under the programme. The same implants cost around Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh in the private sector,” Preetam added.
