Amritsar| The district administration launched low-cost sanitary napkins for the girl students.
The napkins will be made available to the girl students through vending machines installed at different schools. Ravi Bhhagat, Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar said this attempt is aimed at improving hygiene of girl students by providing them low-cost alternative to the extremely expensive and non-biodegradable sanitary pads.
He added that “We wish this initiative would be bridge the gap between rural and urban girls and help in empower the overall development of women in the district. They named as “NAARIV-CARE” ,where NAARI stands for Nari Niketan And Red Cross Initiative”.
This low-cost pads were eco-friendly and bio-degradable, thus making them easily accessible at all strata and easily disposable.
These pads are being made in-house by the inmates of the ‘State After Care Home’, Nari Niketan, with the help of specially designed pad making machines.
The price of a packet of five pads will be Rs 10 whereas a set of two pads will cost Rs 5.
