About 500 doctors at the Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, New Delhi are gone on strike from Monday against the non-payment of salaries for months.
The doctors told Health live that have not been paid their salaries for more than four months and if it persists we will go for mass suicide.
We have written to the President of India seeking his permission for “suicide” said Hindu Rao RDA President Rahul Choudhary. In the letter, the doctors said, “Our situation has turned pathetic and we are unable to take care of our families. We do not even have money for food… So we seek your permission for suicide.”
The hospital is run by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. The corporation said they are going through a financial crisis because of which, they are unable to pay their employees including teachers, engineers and nurses.
A senior NDMC official said the salaries of resident doctors were delayed because funds were not released on time by the Delhi government.
“We have learnt that the government may release funds due to NDMC today. As soon as it happens, the salaries will be paid,” the official said.
Federation of Resident Doctors Association also supported the strike. Dr.Sumedh President-FORDA told we do not like to go on strike and disrupt or disturb the medical services but it is the question of doctors family how we can survive without salaries for such a long period.
Earlier on Sunday A notice issued by the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) states “We hereby declare an indefinite strike commencing at 9 am on May 20.
We have persistently requested our administration for basic demands like receiving our salaries on time, protection from violence by relatives of patients, availability of potable drinking water, a 24 hour library and regular JR/SR (Junior Doctor/Senior Doctor) interviews added Dr. Sanjeev Choudhary Secretary RDA Hindu Rao hospital.
