With an objective to upgrade the knowledge of Delhi State Cancer Institute DSCI’s Health Care Professionals (HCPs) in advanced treatment techniques, standard of care and effective management of disease. This Certification Program in Lung and Breast Cancer was conducted in association with Peter MacCullam Cancer Centre, Australia which was successfully attended by 4 HCPs.
44 nurses of Delhi State Cancer Institute received the certificate on successfully completion of 100 hours of Oncology Nurse Training conducted by Cancer Centres of America(CCA) and 4 HCPs received it for completing the training under Lung Preceptorship Program which was given by Peter MacCullam Cancer Centre , Australia. The certificates were distributed to the staff nurses by Mr Rajesh Manthena, Executive Director& Chief Development Officer, Cancer Centres of America, Mr Vinay Subramanian , Chief Operating officer, Roche, Dr Kishor Singh, Director, DSCI, Dr Pragya Shukla, HOD, Clinical Oncology, DSCI and Dr Anita Nakra, Assistant Director, Nursing, DSCI.
As per MoU signed between DSCI and Roche, the Paramedic Staff Training and the Preceptorship Program were conducted in two batches from June 20, 2022 to July 09, 2022 and from July 18, 2022 to Aug 06, 2022 at the Institute.
This Oncology Nurse Training Program (ONTP) was designed to prepare DSCI’s Nurses for Oncology specific patient handling, counselling and drug administration. This program was delivered taking the nurses through classroom training and practical training as well. The nurses will now be more able to administer medication safely within the scope of Oncology nursing practice and they will be able to manage the side effects along with educating and counselling the patients about treatment, medication and precautions to be taken. The main focus of this 3 week program was to have a better understanding of Oncology Overview, Drug Administration which broadly includes the methods of medicine mixing or preparation, consumables, techniques and checklist of administration and information on drug interactions and Patient Management.
The Preceptorship Program is actually an educational initiative to enhance the clinical capability of the HCPs. The objective of this initiative is to upgrade the knowledge of DSCI’s HCPs in advanced treatment techniques , standard of care and effective management of disease. Dr Pragya Shukla, HOD, Clinical Oncology who designed the training module said that “I am really grateful that Roche Pharmaceuticals worked to make my dream and idea into a reality with help from CCA. Any training program is a failure if the knowledge gained is confined to the students who have attended the program. It’s my humble request spread and implement whatever you gained during these weeks of training. Do good and remain happy while doing it.” She said that “We cannot deliver cancer care of International standards if our nursing staff and Junior doctors are not updated about the latest advances in oncology.’’
Dr Kishor Singh, Director, DSCI said that this training will help our staff in delivering better Patient Care. With the help of this training our doctors and nurses will be in a better position to deal with the increasing burden of cancer and certainly provide the better care to the cancer patients.
Mr Vinay Subramanian , Chief Operating officer, Roche said that “ It is not only business but business with patient benefits that we have been looking for. This training will certainly help Paramedical staff in delivering the services in a better way.”
Mr Rajesh Manthena, Executive Director& Chief Development Officer, Cancer Centres of America said that “For the first time any government set has asked us to train their staff. We are always there to support in terms of sharing advanced techniques and better patient management in coming days too.’’
