HLive|Chandigarh: There was issued an order by the Punjab and Haryana high court that a woman candidate couldn’t be permanently debarred from joining as doctor in the Army Medical Corps on the pretext that she had conceived during the selection process.
The court said that such an action had no place in modern India.
The HC also declared that the letter issued by the director general of armed forces in October 22, 2009 – debarring a pregnant woman candidate from commission – as illegal and unconstitutional.
In this case, a woman candidate conceived between the period of her application and completion of final selection process. She was restrained for joining for being pregnant.
