COMMUNICATION FOR PEOPLE FOUNDATION (COPE Foundation) organized a health camp on 10th June at Sourav Vihar in Delhi, a densely populated area with majority of the migrant population from neighbouring states.  This health Camp aimed to provide preventive, curative and promotive health care services to the underprivileged community, especially women and children. The camp benefitted 128 people from community including children, women and aged people. Children under the age of 5 years and their mothers were especially focused during the camp.

The camp focus on detection and treatment for acute illness, provision of health awareness and spreading awareness about maternal and child health. Lack of awareness on anaemia, menstrual hygiene is major health concerns among adolescents and women in this locality. It was found that educated mothers are more receptive towards the health educative messages such as; importance of breastfeeding, immunization, and simple hygienic measures.

Dinesh Chauhan founder of the organization said that ‘due to inadequate access to safe drinking water and poor sanitation, the majority of people are suffering from water-borne disease, diarrhoea is rampant among all age group in the locality. Majority of children were underweight and almost half of them suffering from diarrhoea. Awareness of Ante-natal care and Post-natal care are low resulting into low birth weight and anaemia among women’.

45 out of 128 people have reported that they are being treated for thyroid and majority of them were women. Blood sugar estimation was done by using a glucometer and 40 people were found to have high blood sugar as per the organizers.

Mr. Chauhan also added that “due to distance, government health facilities are not accessed by community and majority of community members visit local quacks for the treatment which often put their lives on stake”. Government hospitals have long queue and waiting time does not allow easy access to government health facilities for community members.

He also added that he will continue to create awareness by organizing such health camps for marginalised community. COPE Foundation is committed to help mankind and the society.
