The observance of Vigilance Awareness Week every year remains pivotal in promoting the integrity by raising awareness regarding the importance of reiterating the commitment against corruption. This year the Vigilance Awareness Week has observed from 31st October being anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Considering the importance of this week in medical fraternity the Department of Community Medicine at Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung hospital observed the Vigilance awareness week  activities. As a part of vigilance awareness week a seminar was conducted on Saturday. This year the theme is Corruption free India for a developed Nation’

At the seminar dignitaries delivered their respective addresses for  motivating the audience for corruption free practices at an individual, systemic and organisational level.
The seminar commenced with a welcome address from Chief Vigilance Officer Dr. Shalabh, Head department of burns and plastic Safdarjung hospital. This was followed by a talk from Dr. Geetika Khanna Principal VMMC and Safdarjung and Ms Suchiti Chandra Legal consultant and lawyer of Supreme court of India.

She explained all the legalities and integrities of corruption in our country. The seminar finally ended with a key note address from the chief guest  Dr. Anil Kumar additional DGHS Ministry of Health & Family Welfare who highlighted all the practical aspects of corruption in public policy and administration and how it can be dealt with. He focussed on technical corruption and who to deal with.

While expressing the concerns over the subject Dr. Jugal Kishore Head of Department community medicine, said corruption became part of life, there are many types of corruption, modern principles, technical and professional trap etc. Indiscipline is one of the part of corruption. Abusing of power given by system becomes personal corruption. To dealt with corruption Dr. Jugal  said Communication, Coordination and Transparency in the system required by all stakeholders. He emphasized on the rotational system of services so that no one get involved into the trap of corruption.

Talking about his own department he further shared that he practices following rules and regulation, regular interaction with employees, continuous monitoring about each activity. Since, four years he gets to check Whatsapp groups made for all the centres in Delhi under his department.  He appreciated the new E-filing system by government which made ease of doing work on time and to serve more number of patients. He concluded the event by giving vote of thanks and followed by interactions with participants. Doctors, students and faculty members participated the event and raised many queries on the subject.
