Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital now became the third hospital to where IVF facility is available. At hospital first baby born who conceived through IVF technology on Friday to a 36-year-old woman who had suffered intrauterine insemination failures previously.
According to Medical Superintendent Dr B L Sherwal, this is the first time that such a procedure has been conducted at the central government-run Safdarjung Hospital. “Both mother and child are in a stable condition and are doing well,” said Dr Sherwal.
VMMC & Safdarjung hospital, the first central government hospital had First successful IVF live Birth on friday The important project of IVF facility at Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at central government hospital turned into reality on the auspicious day of Lohri,13.1.2023, when the first IVF baby at Safdarjung hospital was born.
The groundwork for the project was started way back in 2015 when the place for IVF centre was carved out in the existing Obstetrics and Gynaecology department. The infrastructure and logistics were then completed in 2019 but couldn’t be kickstarted at that time due to COVID pandemic.The credit of conception of this project goes to the previous senior faculty members of department, Prof Dr Banashree Das and Prof Dr Pratima Mittal with the valuable guidance of Dr BD Athani(ex DG) and Dr SV Arya(ex-MS).
The efforts were carried forward by Prof Dr Bindu Bajaj, the present head of IVF unit, which resulted in successful culmination of IVF centre of ObGy deptt at Safdarjung Hospital. The enthusiastic team of IVF consists of Dr Garima Kapoor, Dr Divya Pandey, Dr Reeta, Mr Rahul and working under the able of guidance of Dr BL Sherwal(MS,SJH) ,Dr Geetika Khanna(principal,VMMC) , Dr Jayanthi Mani(Additional MS) and Dr Anjali Dabral HOD.
The first IVF baby has been delivered by emergency CS on 13.1.23 to a couple seeking infertility services at Safdarjung hospital.Both mother & baby are healthy and stable.
The dedicated infertility OPD is being run daily from Monday to Saturday in Obgy department.
