Indian AYUSH ministry have signed an agreement “Project Collaboration Agreemen”t(PCA) on traditional medicines with World Health Organization in Geneva on Friday.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) of AYUSH Mr. Shripad Yesso Naik and the Director-General, World Health Organization, Dr. Margaret Chan witnessed the signing of this landmark agreement at the WHO headquarters.
According to an official statement , to promoting quality, safety and the effectiveness of service provision in traditional and the complementary the agreement has signed with WHO.
The agreement will encourage the promotion of Indian system of traditional medicines globally. Its main aim to support WHO in the development and implementation of the ‘WHO Traditional and Complementary Medicine Strategy: 2014-2023’.
The agreement for the period 2016-2020 will deliver for the first time WHO benchmark document for training in Yoga, and Practice in Ayurveda, Unani and Panchakarma.
Speaking at the occasion, the AYUSH Minister evoked the history and rich heritage of country;s traditional medicine and its growing relevance in providing holistic and comprehensive health care.
He highlighted the Government of India’s initiatives for the promotion of traditional medicine both in India and abroad and discussed the numerous health programmes which have been undertaken to functionally integrate AYUSH in India and for achieving Universal Health Coverage.
