Attack on Gandhi Junior Doctors by COVID patient attenders
Nowadays when a country is struggling with pandemic diseases Novel-corona virus and health workers are trying their best to save lives every minute at that time they are facing the problem of assaulting.
A recent case reported at Hyderabad when Medical fraternity at Gandhi Hospital was agitated after COVID-19 patients, family members of another patient who died allegedly assaulted a junior doctor on the seventh floor of the hospital on Wednesday evening. Hyderabad police have registered a case against those who misbehaved with the hospital staff.
49 year old patient with multiple morbidities who was admitted to the Isolation ward at Gandhi Hospital was tested Covid Positive about 1 week ago. His condition was critical since then and the condition was updated to the attendants regularly including guarded prognosis as he developed ARDS. He succumbed to his illness today while undergoing treatment at Gandhi.
Along with patient three (2male and one female) of his family members were also tested positive for COVID-19 and taking treatment in the same ward.
Two male patients (attenders) attacked General Medicine residents blaming the doctors for death.
We remained calm about Khammam and Nizamabad incident(attacks on doctors) due to health emergency.But incidents are repeating continuously says Dr.Lohith Reddy a member of the association.
We demand to address the issue within 24rs . Keeping in view of health emergency in the nation we are not resorting to taking drastic steps. We hope the government will address the issues before things get out of hands added Dr.Reddy.
Dr.PS Vijayender, Ex Chairman Telangana Junior Doctor Association said we are working day and night treating Corona patients even at the risk of their own life continuously providing our services but some people are not understanding our situation and attacking on us. We urge the government to assure us to provide security.
We demand you to address the following issues-
1) Filing case against the assaulters according to ACT 11 of 2008
2)Deploying CRPF at each floor of hospital, entrance and every checkpoint.
Immediate recruitment of special protection force according to GO 103.
3)Provision of PPE to all health care providers in all hospitals those are working at isolations and emergencies.
4)Assurance from the Chief Minister on the issue
Later the state health minister Health Minister, Eatala Rajender condemned the attack on doctors at Gandhi Hospital.
“The doctors at Gandhi Hospital are already risking their lives to protect those of Coronavirus patients. We will not tolerate such actions at any cost. At a critical time like this when the entire State is fighting an epidemic, such attacks on health care workers is not at all good. The doctors and other health care workers are putting in a lot of efforts to save the lives of patients and this is the time for all of us to support them,” the Minister said in a statement.
