The rape-murder case of a PG trainee female doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has sparked outrage among doctors across the country. Doctors are protesting from Delhi, UP to Kolkata. On Monday, doctors of AIIMS, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital protested in Delhi. Doctors also protested in Lucknow, UP regarding this incident. Here, doctors at King George Medical University and Hospital stopped working. On the other hand, Medical College Principal Sandeep Ghosh resigned in the matter.

Delhi: These hospitals are on strike

The strike is being conducted under the banner of RDA in Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi. Its effect is also being seen in big hospitals of the country’s capital Delhi. According to the report, resident doctors are on strike in most of the government hospitals in the country’s capital Delhi, including RML, Safdarjung, Lady Hardinge, Sucheta Kripalani, Kalavati Saran, Loknayak, GB Pant, GTB, Ambedkar Hospital and Ihbas. Due to this, OPD services and regular surgeries in hospitals will be affected. Whereas emergency services are normal.

OPD & OT services affected, long queue of patients

OPD services at AIIMS and  Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital are affected due to the doctors’ strike. There are long queues of patients. Patients are facing a lot of problems due to the strike. Only 35 per cent of OPD services being held due to strike On other hand OT services were 90 per cent affected and shut down due to protest.

Kolkata: Emergency services also shut down in the hospital

A day earlier, the West Bengal government had removed the hospital’s Medical Superintendent cum Vice Principal Sanjay Vashishtha. In his place, Dean of Student Affairs Professor Bulbul Mukhopadhyay was given the additional charge of Superintendent. Junior doctors were doing emergency duty for the last three days but from Monday morning they have also stopped emergency services. A protesting junior doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital said that we do not want CBI or CBI to investigate the murder case of our colleague.

CM Mamata Banerjee on Issue:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that if the police failed to solve the murder case of a female doctor at RG Kar Hospital by Sunday, then the investigation would be handed over to the CBI. The Chief Minister went to the lady doctor’s house and met the victim’s family. The body of a female doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered inside RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was found on Friday morning. One person has been arrested in this case.

Support of Doctor’s Association from Pan India: The protesting doctors are receiving support from different parts of the country. ‘Federation of Resident Doctors Association of India’ (FORDA) has supported the strike. The association has given a nationwide call to stop alternative services on Monday. FAIMA another national association of doctors have announces nationwide strike from Tuesday in all hospitals of country.
