Organised by “Parivartan”, an AIIMS students’ initiative, it inspired and guided hundreds of students, who wish to take up medicine as their career.
Students from several schools across Delhi thronged the exhibition to get a sense of what it takes to be a medical professional or maybe even interact with the future doctors of the country. Only with the hope of stepping into their shoes in years to come.
“I made up my mind to become a doctor only after attending this informative, inspiring and thought-provoking exhibition,” said Stuti a tenth standard student from Mother’s International school while sharing her experience with HealthLive.
The social wing of AIIMS students’ union, Parivartan, had organized an exhibition to showcase equipment from various departments, microscopic specimens and specimens of the human organs – both pathological and anatomical – during the two-day exhibition at the Jawaharlal Nehru auditorium of the premier institute for school students.
“The objective of the exhibition was to inspire high school students to take up the noble profession, keeping in mind the immense shortage of doctors in India. Our country has 7 doctors per 10,000 population,” Ritvik Chekuri, chief co-ordinator of the programme, told Health Live.
“Toppers’ talk was conducted at the event where-in the school children were guided by the AIIMSonians and IITians for their entrance exams,” he added.
Around 1300 students from more than 60 schools across Delhi-NCR attended the exhibition.
The exhibition also included model demonstration of child birth and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Various physiological experiments and equipment were showcased including sphygmomanometer and ECG machine. First aid and basics of emergency medicine were also taught to the students.
Ajay Mohan, one of the founding members of Parivartan, which has been organizing the exhibition for the past two years, said: “We faced a lot of challenges in the first year, but now it’s like a dream come true after witnessing larger participation of students this year.”
“Our motive is to spread knowledge among school students by encouraging them and guiding them to choose medical profession as career,” Ajay added.
Jyoti Nema, biology teacher at Mother’s International School, who was accompanied by 40 students to the exhibition said: “It is a good initiative by the students for the students. Our students are gaining knowledge and enjoying the specimen demonstrated here.”
Another student from Khalsa Public School, Lokesh Singh said: “I am really fortunate to be a part of this remarkable event.”
The amount collected from the registration fee of Rs. 250 will be used for charity for improvement of primary education and medical facilities at an orphanage in Chattarpur, said Vishnu, a member of Parivartan.
