Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Dr M C Mishra today retired after serving a tenure of three years for the institute.
Dr. Balram Airan, Dean, AIIMS and chief of the Cardio-Thorasic Centre has taken over as the charge as acting director till the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet finalises the name of its new head.
From June 2008 Prof.Mishra also served as the Chief of AIIMS Trauma, a charge which has now been handed over to HOD, Surgery, Dr Anurag Srivastava.
In his 39-month tenure, Mishra contributed immensely to the Apex Medical Sciences University of India taking it to new heights. The significant expansion of JPN Apex Trauma Centre and construction of Surgical Block are representative of his contribution to these fields, a Health Ministry statement said.
He led AIIMS delegations to the EAS Round Table Conference on Trauma Care, the World Trauma Congress and the 2 AIIMS-FAM conferences in New Delhi and Paris.
He is credited with the creation of the new departments of Rheumatology and Burns and Plastic Surgery. He also played a significant role in the Digital AIIMS project.
“His relationship with Chiefs of centres, Heads of Departments, Medical Superintendents and the AIIMS Officials was cordial and constructive. He was a firm administrator, a man of great resilience, boundless energy and positivity,” the Health Ministry statement said.
In his more than three years of tenure as Director AIIMS, Dr Mishra created a dynamic policy environment, with adequate resource availability where meritocracy could thrive and high achievers reach their promised potential said V Srinivas, Deputy Director (Administration), AIIMS.
“Today there is all round recognition that the AIIMS is on a high growth path fulfilling its trinity of missions as the Apex Medical Sciences University of India, with the largest pool of medical talent capable of matching the best in the world,” Srinivas added.
For the new director of AIIMS three names of doctors shortlisted by the Institute Body of AIIMS have been forwarded to the ACC headed by the Prime Minister for final selection are HOD of Paediatrics Dr V K Paul, HOD of Pulmonary Medicine Dr Randeep Guleria, and Cardiology Professor Dr Balram Bhargava .
