To make the people of the country aware for eye donation, a cycle rally was conducted by the AIIMS administration in New Delhi today, in which hundreds of AIIMS resident doctors, nurses, staff and other cooperative NGO workers participated in the rally. This cycle rally started from AIIMS Hospital premises till India Gate and will go round the entire ground before reaching AIIMS.
For many years, the administration has been doing something or the other to make people aware and in this sequence, this cycle rally was taken out today.
Last year, due to the efforts of the administration, about 350 people were able to see the world from their eyes. People who participated in the rally have taken a pledge to donate their eyes and also encourage other people of the country to take oath for eye donation today.
Dr Jeevan Singh Titiyal, the newly appointed head of AIIMS’ Rajendra Prasad Eye Hospital (RP Centre), said that every year in AIIMS, the effort made to make people aware by organizing cycle rally and other activities regarding eye donation.
Even this year due to the corona pandemic though it is a concise and small event but we used to organise every year at a mass level.
Dr.Titiyal further said as we all know how important eyes are for us. This is our appeal to the people that when all of you are leaving the body, then donate your eye so that other person can see this world through your eyes. Today, all the people involved in this rally will take an oath to donate their eyes, the people of the country will also have to be aware and donate their eyes to give a chance to see the world.
Dr. Amandeep Singh, President AIIMS Resident Doctors Association said I am happy that people have participated enthusiastically in this rally. We have organized a large-scale cycle rally to make the people of the country aware and this rally will start from AIIMS Hospital and will be taken to India Gate, then from there back this cycle rally will reach AIIMS Hospital and here the whole ground is grand.
Dr.Jeevan S Titiyal, senior ophthalmologist and Padmashree awardee , has been appointed as the new Chief of Rajendra Prasad Eye Hospital of the hospital. Dr. Jeevan Singh Titiyal is a renowned Ophthalmologist. He is credited with the first live cornea transplant surgery by an Indian physician. He was honoured by the Government of India in 2014 with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, for his services in the field of medicine.
