Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), one of India’s leading medical institutions, t announces the inauguration of the Medical Innovation Centre (MIC)—a pioneering initiative to stimulate and encourage medical innovations.
The initiative is established in collaboration with the I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC), the Technology Innovation Hub of IIT Delhi.
The Medical Innovation Centre has been envisioned as a translational ecosystem to bridge clinical insights with technological innovation, aiming to develop affordable, scalable, and impactful healthcare solutions for India and beyond. The inauguration marks the beginning of an era where engineering, medicine, and entrepreneurship come together under one roof to address pressing health challenges.
MIC Promotes Innovation:
Speaking at the inaugural event, Dr Poonam Narang, Dean of MAMC stated:
“The MIC reflects our commitment to promote interdisciplinary innovation and empower our faculty and students to become healthcare problem-solvers. We are proud to partner with IHFC-IIT Delhi, whose technological and innovation capabilities bring tremendous strength to this initiative.”
IHFC Director, Prof S K Saha, while inviting faculty and students to apply for support for early-stage medtech ideas remarked:
“This collaboration with MAMC aligns with our national mission to promote innovation in Cyber-Physical Systems. We are excited to support medical innovators, clinicians, and students in converting ideas into meaningful solutions that improve lives.”
The event also included the exchange of Expression of Interests between MAMC and IHFC-IIT Delhi, and also MAMC and Adroitec.
MIC Focuses on Digital Health Innovations, Technology & Training:
Prof Anurag Mishra, who is the main force behind the creation of MIC, informed all, the MIC will focus on:
- Incubation of medtech and digital health innovations
- Design, prototyping, and clinical validation of medical devices
- Hands-on training, hackathons, and innovation fellowships
- Industry-academia partnerships for technology transfer and scale-up
He emphasised that main role of MIC will be to find solutions to health problems of India and similar LMICs esp in low resource areas using collaborative, frugal innovations.
The event was attended by Senior doctors, faculty, entrepreneurs and students from Maulana Azad Medical College, IIT Delhi, Adroitec and other partners.
With the launch of MIC, MAMC joins a growing network of institutions committed to transforming healthcare through innovation, accessibility, and indigenous solutions. This establishes MAMC as leader in field of Medical innovation as MIC is first of its kind in any government run medical college.
