AIIMS Conducts Specialized Emergency Training Under Trauma and Burns Initiative of MoHFW- Empowering BSES Front-line Workers in Emergency Care
The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi conducted a training course for around 120 front-line workers of BSES under the aegis of the Centre of Excellence, Trauma and Burns initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This initiative recognizes the crucial role of power and utility workers in urban safety.
Held at the Seminar Hall of Burns and Plastic Surgery Block, AIIMS, New Delhi on 17th of April 2025 and 29th of April 2025, this training was aimed at enhancing the emergency response skills of utility workers who are often the first on the scene during accidents, electrocutions, fires, and other critical incidents.
The program was spearheaded by Dr. Maneesh Singhal, Professor, Department of Plastic and Burns Surgery and Dr Sushma Sagar, Professor, Trauma Surgery. Dr. Maneesh Singhal elaborated on the different types of electrical injuries, their clinical presentations, and the crucial stages of intervention—from immediate first aid to hospital-based emergency care and long-term rehabilitation. Dr Sushma Sagar emphasised the significance of the golden hour of trauma response and Basic Life Support ,Other Faculty Members, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals experts in the field from AIIMS, focusing on: Basic Life Support (BLS), First aid for electrical injuries, Safe patient handling and transport, and Real-life simulation drills. Training them in emergency medical care is a significant step towards building a more resilient and responsive community.

The hands-on training and simulation exercises were designed to foster quick decision-making and confidence in emergencies, enabling workers to act swiftly and efficiently during crises. The active involvement of participants was a highlight of the event. One of the trainees delivered a brief summary of key takeaways at the end of the session, effectively reflecting the enthusiasm and engagement of the entire group. The program concluded with a group photograph and distribution of participation certificates, marking the occasion as both educational and memorable.

By enhancing the frontline workers’ understanding of emergency protocols, first aid, and best practices during electrical and burn injuries, the training significantly contributes to a safer and more responsive working environment. This effort not only empowers individuals but also strengthens the community’s capacity to handle emergencies with competence and care.
