All India Institute of Medical Sciences planning to have AI based ECG services. AIIMS will very soon provide ECG facility to the patients admitted here at their bedside through Artificial Intelligence technology. With this, the technician will not have to go from one department to another to do ECG of patients. Besides, the need of taking some patients to the central unit for this purpose will also be eliminated. Patients will also get relief from the trouble of transporting from one place to another.

Use of Technology to streamline ECG services:

Currently, ECGs are performed by technicians who go to various departments to do ECG on admitted patients,  and some patients are referred for ECG to centralised ECG facility. Dr. M. Srinivas, Director AIIMS, said  that we plan to streamline ECG services throughout inpatient sections in an effort to improve both patient care and operational effectiveness. By December 31, 2024, AIIMS New Delhi plans to have digital ECG equipment with AI-based interpretation capabilities installed in every inpatient area. The ability to do ECGs at the bedside for admitted patients by designated healthcare professionals, such as nursing officers, resident physicians, and faculty members, will result in a considerable reduction in the requirement for patient transfers.

Establishment of 24 hour Command Centre:

To further improve comprehension of complex ECGs, the Department of Cardiology will establish a 24-hour “Command Centre.”  All inpatient areas will have the facility to send complex  ECGs by to telemetry  for opinion and interpretation  by Cardiologists.

Dr. (Prof.) M. Srinivas, emphasized that, “At AIIMS, New Delhi, we want to use technology to improve healthcare delivery. We make sure that our patients obtain timely and effective diagnostic services, improving their entire healthcare experience, by integrating AI-based digital ECG devices and setting up a 24×7 Command Centre.”

Enhancement of patientcare delivery:

This initiative represents a major advancement in the efforts to enhance patient care delivery. Our goal is to deliver prompt and accurate diagnostic assistance right at the bedside by adopting cutting-edge technology and de-centralising ECG services says Dr. Rima Dada, PIC, Media Cell
