New Delhi|HL

Angered by the incident of attack and vandalism during the doctors’ demonstration in Kolkata last night, FORDA (Federation of Resident Doctors Association) has announced to go on strike again. The resident doctors’ organization had ended its strike two days ago after meeting Union Health Minister JP Nadda in Delhi.

After the attack during the demonstration, FORDA has issued a statement on Thursday saying that the manner in which the attacks were carried out in West Bengal last night has once again raised questions on the safety of doctors. After this FORDA has decided to go on strike again.

Why FORDA had ended the strike

Based on assurances from the Ministry, we had decided in good faith to call off the strike, which caused distress and disappointment in our medical community. We accept responsibility for this and understand the widespread dissatisfaction it has caused.

On August 13, a FORDA delegation in Delhi had announced to end the strike after meeting Union Health Minister JP Nadda, which was strongly opposed by other medical associations and organizations of the country.

FORDA’s statement regarding the attack

FORDA’s release further said that the events that have unfolded since then, especially the violence that took place last night i.e. on Wednesday, have shocked and saddened all of us. This is a dark chapter for our profession. As an Association, we reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with our fellow resident doctors. We condemn the central ministry and the state government for failing to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals and honoring their commitments during this crisis.

FORDA’s decision

After the failure of Bengal Police, the responsibility of investigating the murder of trainee doctor is now in the hands of CBI. But no major update has been released yet. Keeping this in mind, FORDA announced the launch of a nationwide strike to get the justice for their fellow colleague and for the safety of doctors. Along with this, in the matter of sabotage on the hospital by unknown assailants last night, FORDA issued a press release on Thursday saying that in view of the recent disturbing incidents at RG Kar Medical College, the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) Addresses colleagues, the medical community and the public with a new resolve.

We accept responsibility for this and understand the widespread dissatisfaction it has caused.
