National Doctor’s Day, observed on July 1st, recognizes the relentless efforts and exceptional services rendered by doctors across the nation. Safdarjung Hospital took this opportunity to express gratitude towards its medical professionals and express appreciation for their unwavering dedication.
Safdarjung Hospital, a premier healthcare institution, celebrated Doctor’s Day and marked the beginning of Organ Donation Month with great enthusiasm and dedication. The hospital organized a walkathon in the hospital premises to raise awareness about organ donation and honor the invaluable contributions of doctors towards the well-being of society. The event witnessed the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Dr. Atul Goel, as the Chief Guest, along with Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, Dr. Vandana Talwar, who led the walkathon. Dr. Atul Goel, administered the pledge for organ donation and encouraged the participants.
The walkathon witnessed the participation of officers, faculty, nurses, medical staff and students who enthusiastically supported the cause. The walkathon served as a platform to educate and aware the public about the significance of organ donation and dispel common misconceptions surrounding it.
Highlighting about this year’s theme ‘Celebrating Resilience And Healing Hands’ of National Doctor’s day Dr. Vandana Talwar, Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the participants and volunteers who made the walkathon a resounding success. She acknowledged the commitment of the hospital’s medical staff in providing exceptional healthcare services and reiterated the hospital’s commitment to promoting organ donation and saving lives.
Dr. Anil Kumar,Director, National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), stressed on the importance of the donating organs. He mentioned that up to eight lives could benefit by one person’s pledge.
Addl. M.S. Dr. Vandana Chakravarty thanked all those who had joined the walkathon and informed about the message to be conveyed through the walkathon as ‘Donate Organs Save Lives’. Dr. Chakravarty also thanked the Branch Manager of Bank of Baroda, Branch- Safdarjung Hospital for helping to carry out this walkathon.

Importance of Doctor’s Day: Doctor’s Day is celebrated in the memory of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy who was an Indian Physician, Educationist and Statesman who served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1948 until his death in 1962. 1st July is both , the birth and the death anniverssary of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.
