Campaign Against Ankylosing Spondylitis (CAAS India) an association working for the awareness on the disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis organised a friendly match “cap campaign” at the East Delhi Sports Complex to make people aware of Ankylosing Spondylitis last weekend.
CAAS India and Cricket club teams participated in the match. CAAS India won the toss and decided to bat first. The players of the CAAS India team performed better batting and scored 125 runs in 15 overs. In the second innings, the players of the cricket club also showed great batting and went on to win the Cap Cup.
During this, Dr. Ajay Kumar, in-charge of Municipal Health Mobile Unit and founder of Navadhishi Charitable Trust shared essential information related to ankylosing spondylitis.
Encouraging the players Dr. Arun Pandey, Orthopedic Surgeon of Lady Harding Hospital said such events help to spread awareness about such inflammatory disease and boost the pepole suffering from the same. .
At the closing ceremony of the event CAAS India founder Ankur Shukla (Chhatrapati Ankur) appealed to the young players to make others aware of AS disease .Ranjit Kumar, Ratnesh Kumar and Agaz Rufi contributed commendably to make the program a success.
Ankylosing spondylitis is an autoimmune disorder category of disease. The cause of the disease is not known. There is no cure for this disease. It can only be managed. The disease affects only 15 to 35 year olds. The immunity of a person suffering from this disease starts against his body and damages the soft tissue between the joints of bones. As a result, the joints deteriorate and join together. The most common side effect of this is on the spinal cord, due to which the body’s posture is deteriorated and the patient becomes disabled in his young age.
According to founder member Ankur the biggest misfortune is that there is a huge lack of awareness about this disease in the country. Treatment is also extremely expensive and limited. It is to be noted that Ankylosing Spondylitis patients also do not get the facility of health insurance due to government provisions. At the same time, the central and state governments are indifferent to this disease says Ankur.
CAAS India is an association made up of a group of people suffering from this disease. The aim is to make people aware of this disease and provide financial and medical help to the suffering patients. Apart from this, for the last 5 years this institution has been striving to protect the interests of the patients suffering from this disease.
The participants enjoyed the event and took a pledge to fight against this disease.
