The day reported 51 new cases in total across the state with Vadodara (7), Surat (5) and Rajkot (3) following Ahmedabad (22). From September 1, the state has reported 975 swine flu cases out of which 366 patients are still under treatment in state hospitals.

“Medicines and shots are available in adequate quantity at all major hospitals and district-level units. We have advised the authorities in most affected areas to initiate sustained drives and create awareness about symptoms of flu. If the patients come in early stages of development, complete recovery is possible,” said a health department official.

The official added that higher deaths in Ahmedabad are due to the fact that it is a tertiary care centre and a majority of the patients have been shifted to hospitals such as Civil Hospital from other facilities.
