Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament from Chandigarh noticed issue of delay in filling up of sanctioned posts of doctors in Chandigarh with the administrator and Punjab governor VP Singh Badnore.
In a letter written to Badnore, Kher has mentioned that 63 posts of medical officers were created by the ministry of health and family welfare in June 2016. But she was surprised to learn that not a single doctor had been recruited till now. Her letter stated: “Due to lack of medical officers, health services are badly affected. Even newly constructed dispensaries in Sector 49 and 50 could not be made functional. Local newspapers are regularly reporting about the poor delivery of health services in Chandigarh, particularly in rural areas.”
She has requested him to look into the matter personally and examine the reasons behind the delay.
She suggested that doctors be employed on contractual basis temporarily for smooth functioning of hospitals and dispensaries. The letter mentioned: “Providing better health services to the masses is the dream project of our government and we all are duty bound to make this dream a reality.”
