Resident Doctors Association, AIIMS held a protest at AIIMS premises for their three major issues including drawing blood samples ,working hours and hostels facilities.
Dr. Harijit Singh, General Sacretary, RDA,AIIMS told HealthLive “ We had a meeting with administration and they promised to solve all the issues within three months. It is a negotiating meet in which 60% of demands accepted by the administration.
The main issue is drawing of samples.Drawing samples is the work of trained technicians and not of doctors, and since we are also asked to prepare vials and barcode them, There is requirement of at least 20 phlebotomists in emergency department alone and for the whole institute is much more in numbers said Dr.Harijit.
The other issues include additional hostels for resident doctors and fixing of duty hours, he said. There were three hostels, supposed to be completed over two years ago, but the construction is still pending. According to DDA lack of funds is main reason on this matter but today 15 crore fund is raised for construction, it is a positive step by admin Dr Singh added. If these hostels constructed, about 1200 of residents will get accommodation.
The combine meeting was held in the presence of senior nursing staff, HoDs, DDA, Medical Superintendent, Unions and AIIMS Director and the Deputy Director Administration.
They have given us a verbal assurances that vial preparations would be done by the staff and we would be drawing blood samples only for more two months, as phlebotomists would be hired for the same .
Apart from these the issue of ‘Central residency scheme, which says to give weekly off and post duty off after 48hrs of working to residents also discussed during the meeting Dr.Singh told Healthlive.
The march from the coffee shop to the bungalow of the institute’s director was made during the general body meeting today.
Further Dr.Harijit informed if our hostels are not built and action were not taken on other two issues by November 30, we will go for a indefinite strike from 1st of December.
