Dr. RK Sureka who is retired Professor of Neurology at SMS Medical College, Jaipur and the Chief Neurophysician Epilepsy Care and Research Foundation, provides free investigations to all epileptic patients and free medicines for a month to all patients.
While talking with HealthLive Dr. Sureka said, “I have started this free treatment of epilepsy in the memory of my mother in 1994.

In each camp about more than 600 patients and about 400 attendants attend every time and about 260 camps have been organized till now.
Few other doctors are also helping him in this social cause they are neurophysician- a psychiatrist, a physician and a pediatrician.

At free epilepsy camp around 6000 epileptic patients from all over India and states like Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Bihar, Assam, Bengal and Uttar Pradesh are enrolled here and are not only given free consultation, medicines but also are imparted health education with counseling services through Pamphlets, Charts, Exhibitions, Video shows, Nukkad Natak so, that the myths and the disbeliefs can be removed and good compliance could be ensured.

Sharing his experiences with HealthLive about the camp he said ,80% of the seizures can be controlled with simple drugs costing Rs 100-150 per month without sophisticated investigations.

The government plays main role by providing space to him in its primary health centre for organizing the camps as said by Dr.Sureka.
