The Union Health & Family Welfare Ministry updating on coronavirus and said 63 per cent of the deaths have been reported in people who are 60 years and above during a press briefing held on Monday.
Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal highlighted that 47 per cent of the Covid-19 cases are in people who fall under the age of 40, while, 34 per cent of the Covid-19 patients in India fall in the age group of 40 to 60, and 19 per cent of the patients are 60 years of age and above. Agarwal also said that while coronavirus is a bigger threat for elderly people, young people with co-morbidities like diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease also need to be protected.
The health ministry also said that 73 per cent of the Covid-19 deaths have been reported in men, while 27 per cent of those have been in women. On the age distribution in mortality, joint secretary Lav Agarwal said that 63 per cent of the deaths have been reported in people who are 60 years and above, 30 per cent of the deaths have been reported in people between 40 to 60 years age, and, seven per cent deaths have been reported in people below 40 years of age.
In the last 24 hours more than 690 new positive Covid-19 cases have been reported in the country and the total number of coronavirus infections in the country to 4067, Agarwal stated
