There is need of awareness among female kidney patients as they are more prone to Chronic Kidney Diseases owing to lack of awareness said Dr. Himanshu Sekhar Mahapatra, Head of Department, Nephrology , RML.
The main reasons come across of lacking awareness are limited access to healthcare, social stigma and negligence for women in India Dr.Himanshu added.
On the occasion of 13th World Kidney Day,a conference organized by the Department of Nephrology of The PGIMER, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on March 9, 2018 where Nephrologists gathered to discuss on increasing the kidney disease in Women and to create awareness of kidney diseases among the public.
They stressed the need for women to have higher awareness, timely diagnosis and proper follow up of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in pregnancy as during pregnancy the chances of causing hypertension, preeclampsia and SLE(systemic lupus erythematosus) the autoimmune diseases.

Talking with Healthlive Dr.Himanshu said “There are 14 percent females and 12 per cent patients of Chronic Kidney disease in India. The numbers of Out Patient Department patients in RML increased three times in last eight years. In 2010 about 10 thousand patients came in OPD which now increased and reached around thirty thousand in 2018.
Prof (Dr) Dipankar Bhowmik, Department of Nephrology, AIIMS-Delhi, said, there are only two alternatives of kidney failure i.e Dialysis and kidney transplant.“With 10% of the population worldwide having some form of kidney damage, there is a long road ahead to raise awareness about the dangers of kidney disease Dr.Bhowmik added.

Two times transplant in a week- Medical Superitendent of RML Dr.V.K.Tewari told till now in RML once a week facility of kidney transplant was available , but from now onwards it turns to two times in a week.
