Now Delhities will get the treatment for cancer through Nuclear Medicine. Delhi State Cancer Institute has become the first Govt Hospital under NCT Delhi where the facility of treatment through nuclear medicine has started on Saturday.
At present this treatment is available only in AIIMS but now DSCI also become the Delhi government’s first hospital to provide this facility.
Including different private and government hospitals in Delhi NCR region there are only 5 centres where this nuclear medicine treatment facility is available. In India there are 31 centres and 110 beds are available. Adding 7 beds by DSCI will help cancer patients of Delhi NCR region to cure cancer and they will not have to wait for longer period.
On its eleventh birth anniversary celebration DSCI inaugurated 7 bedded Nuclear Medicine ward . It is very helpful treatment facility in respect of cancer diagnosis and its treatment. It offers procedures that are essential in many medical specialties, from paediatrics to cardiology to psychiatry. In treatment, the radiopharmaceuticals go directly to the organ being treated.

Both AIIMS,Delhi and Tata Memorial Hospital,Mumbai has 7 beds for this treatment. While talking with Healthlive Prof R K Grover, Director,Delhi State Cancer Institute said that people spend around 20 lakhs for this nuclear medicine treatment but at DSCI it will be available free of cost.
It’s a kind of cancer treatment through isotopes. For this kind of treatment security from radiation is required and that is why patients are kept alone in room for three to four days. This treatment is mainly very helpful in throat cancer, thyroid cancer, prostate and endocrine tumor. It is also very helpful for those patients who don’t want to go for surgery or in those cases where surgery is not possible said Prof A k Malhotra, HOD Nuclear medicine, DSCI.
Delhi government minister for Water Rajendra Pal , MLA Gautam,, Anil Bajpai, Sarita Singh, Mohd Ishfaq Khan and Ch. Fateh Singh were also present to at the occasion.
