18-year girl raped by hospital supervisors on Saturday in Gurgram. The girl working as a housekeeping staff at Artemis hospital in Sector 51 was allegedly raped by two of her supervisors in a span of two hours on Saturday.
Police said her medical examination has confirmed rape. Both suspects were arrested on Monday and sent to judicial custody by a court on Tuesday.
The woman alleged she was raped inside the hospital on Saturday afternoon but an Artemis spokesperson denied that, saying no such crime had taken place inside the hospital premises. The woman’s family approached police on Monday after she confided in them on Sunday night, police said.
In her complaint, the woman said around 2 pm on Saturday, one of her supervisors, Pradeep, dragged her below the stairs and raped her. Then, two hours later, another supervisor, Gogai Das, took her to the washroom and forced himself on her. Both had also threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the crime.
“I was too scared to speak on the day of the crime as they both had told me they will be there. I was too scared to raise an alarm also. So I went back home and I could narrate my ordeal to my parents only the next day. They first took me to the hospital. Hospital officials took us to the women’s police station,” she said.
On the basis of her complaint, an FIR was registered against the two supervisors – 28-year-old Pradeep, from Haryana’s Mahendergarh district, and 31-year-old Gogai, from West Bengal – under sections 376D (gang rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Both have been working in the hospital for the past three years.
“Hospital officials came to us, along with the woman and her family, on Monday morning. With the help of the hospital management, we identified the accused and arrested them on Monday night,” said inspector Kailash Devi, SHO of Women’s police station, Gurgram
An official spokesperson for Artemis told TOI, “The incident didn’t take place on the hospital premises. Also, all the staff members involved in it are outsourced and were not hired by us.”
