To express soliditary with doctors protesting in Kolkata the resident doctors of fourteen hospitals across Delhi will be on strike on Saturday.
Doctors at government and private hospitals held demonstrations by boycotting work. A group of doctors also met Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and apprised him about the medical fraternity’s demand for ensuring the safety and security of doctors in the face of any violence in the hospital .
The Indian Medical Association Friday also launched a three-day nationwide protest and called for a strike on June 17 with the demand for proper security of the doctors in all hospitals.
Dr.Sumedh-president Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) said all Delhi doctors are with our collegues in West Bengal, and if we needed will intensify our agitation. The simple demand from government is to ensure the security and safety of doctors.
The 14 hospitals are RML Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, Employees’ State Insurance Model Hospital, Dada Dev Matri Avum Shishu Chikitsalaya, Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences, Hindu Rao Hospital, Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya and Railways Hospital.
Earlier a doctor from Kolkata’s Nil Ratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital (NRS) sustained a skull fracture after an attack by the relatives of a patient who died on Monday. Doctors from Kolkata went on strike on Tuesday.West Bengal doctors’ protest entered its fifth day Friday as doctors continued to demand adequate security. More than a hundred senior medical practitioners across various state-run hospitals tendered their resignations on Friday accusing Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to tackle the situation.
