Doctors from Resident Doctors Association (RDA) AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital, PGI-Chandigarh and Aligarh Muslim University, along with doctors from Punjab , Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, several other organizations today took out a protest march against the National Medical Commission Bill.
Around 10,000 doctors protested and marched from AIIMS to the Parliament House on opposing various provisions of the Bill that seeks to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI) with a new body.
The Bill was referred to the Parliamentary Select Committee, following protests by doctors from across the country. They had claimed that the proposed legislation would “cripple” the functioning of medical professionals by making them completely answerable to the bureaucracy and non-medical administrators.
Our demands were to withdraw clause of allopathic bridge course for AYUSH, practitioner and National Licentiate(NLE) amend clause up to 40 per cent seats regulation in private medical colleges by government said Dr.Harijit Bhati, President RDA, AIIMS.
On the other hand FORDA India also staged marched from Ladi Hardinge Medical College to Connaught Place. Dr.Vivek Chouksey, President FORDA and Dr. Pankaj Solanki, Former President FORDA told HealthLive, the proposed bill will further deteriorate the health care delivery system of the country. Though we had high hopes and expectations from our Prime Ministers Modi ji, nothing significant has been done by the government to improve the health care of the country Dr. Vivek added.
Government must prepare itself for the difficult times, since we are not going to sit back, we may go to any extent of protest if required added Dr. Solanki .
FORDA submitted its demands and memorandum to health ministry.
Later a meeting held between RDA AIIMS and Health Minister Nadda which results a assurance of next meeting being organised of representatives from FORDA & RDA AIIMS with Parliament select committee and review all these clauses for amendment.
